Job Responsibilities for Statistical Geneticist Jobs, Research Scientist :
As a Research Scientist, you’ll be responsible for developing and applying statistical methods to genomic and health-related data. You’ll be exploring how these data can contribute to our understanding of human health and disease.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Data Analysis: You’ll be creating, manipulating, and merging large and complex data sets. You’ll also be programming statistical data analysis of these sets efficiently using parallel computing.
- Staying Updated: You’ll need to stay informed about the latest methods in statistical genetics and understand how to apply them appropriately.
- Communication: You’ll need to summarize and communicate your results to research faculty, staff, and clinical collaborators.
- Interpretation: You’ll need to interpret your results and identify potential problems and their solutions.
- Simulations: You’ll need to perform simulations to support statistical methods development.

Minimum Qualifications for Statistical Geneticist, Research Scientist
East Carolina University is looking for someone with a master’s degree in genetics, statistics, or a related field. They should have 4 years of experience in a quantitative science field, where they managed and analyzed large, complex data sets. This experience should show they used advanced computational and statistical techniques.
- You should also know both biology and statistics to analyze projects related to translational, genetic, or genomic research. They should be able to spot problems in data or results and find solutions.
- You should be proficient in R and Linux/Unix systems, and they should know statistical software packages like SAS, STATA, S-Plus, and SPSS. They should also know specialized software for analyzing genetic and genomic data.
- You should also have experience with cloud computing.
- You should be able to communicate complex genetic or medical research questions into statistical questions. They should be able to write clearly and prepare results for publication.
Preferred Qualifications
East Carolina University loves someone with a PhD in genetics, statistics, or a related field. They should have been published in statistical genetics. They should also know a programming language like Python, Perl, or C++. They should be familiar with reproducible research principles and tools like Git, R Markdown/Sweave.
