In addition to teaching and mentoring students, this Assistant Professor of Practice jobs in Documentary Expression position involves actively contributing to the Center’s mission by creating original and collaborative work.
This permanent nine-month, non-tenure track academic position includes a teaching load of two plus two courses, providing a clear path for advancement and promotion.

- Teaching 2+2 courses with advising duties.
- Working closely with students in the classroom and in the field.
- Creating original documentary projects, either alone or with others. You’ll use photography, audio, oral history, video, or mixed media. Check out our work at http://southdocs.org/.
- Make sure you’re accountable and ethical in representing people and places you choose to document.
- Designing and presenting workshops or classes on technical and theory-based documentary storytelling and related media. You’ll also give feedback to students on their projects.
- Collaborating with community partners and building long-term relationships through impactful storytelling and programs. - Using your work to lead and inspire conversations on campus and in the community. You’ll do this through exhibitions, panel discussions, film screenings, and other events.
Minimum Qualifications for Assistant Professor of Practice Jobs:
- A Master of Fine Arts degree in visual or audio storytelling, documentary studies, or a related field.
- Teaching or instructional experience in lens-based media, audio production, documentary studies, or multimedia storytelling.
- The ability to work collaboratively as a team member, responsible for multiple duties in a project.
