Here are the minimum requirements for the Assistant Professor of Instruction position:
- A Ph.D. in Environmental Studies, Environmental Policy, Environmental Science, Public Policy, or a related field.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, analytical abilities, and a meticulous approach to work. Proficiency in using various software applications, especially Microsoft Office suite applications and online learning management systems (Canvas in particular), is a must. Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must.
Here are some Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in Environmental Studies.
- Experience in online teaching and course development at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in Environmental Studies.
Job Description
Teaching 8 courses a year in the Environmental Studies Program. These courses will help students with the Master of Sustainability, Security, and Resilience, the Master of Science – Environmental Studies, and the Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Resilience Certificate. You might teach courses like Undergraduate Capstone, Environmental Science and Public Policy, Resilience Theory and Practice, and Community-based Sustainability. You can also add other courses, but you can’t teach more than 8 each year without your permission. (80% of your time will be spent teaching.)
You’ll also be helping students with the Master of Science – Environmental Studies and the Environmental Studies, Sustainability, and Resilience Certificate. You’ll be there to advise and mentor them. You’ll also be supporting students who want to do experiential education through ES 4910 Leadership Experience each semester. You’ll help them find placements with community and campus organizations.
You’ll also be getting involved in STEM and environmental education and outreach in the Appalachian Region of Ohio. (20% of your time will be spent doing this.)
You’ll need to have reliable internet to work from home if you need to. You’ll also need to be able to travel, but you’ll mostly be traveling locally or within the state of Ohio. You might occasionally be asked to travel out of state to staff college events or national conferences.
