Postdoctoral Fellowship in USA: The Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is looking for a super smart researcher to join their team. They want someone to help them study how different communities in the U.S. charge fees and taxes. The goal is to make these structures more fair and efficient, which will lead to better justice for everyone.
This project is funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance through the Department of Justice, and the postdoc will be supervised by Dr. Peter A. Jones. They’ll work with other researchers from UAB, the Center for Justice Innovation, Alabama Appleseed Center for Law & Justice, and Applied Research Services, all together called the Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) Team.

This position is eligible for a hybrid-remote work arrangement. The specific schedule will be determined by the department and the project supervisor. This is a 12-month renewable position starting mid-August 2025. You’ll be living and working with the TTA team to collect and analyze fines and fees data from five states across the U.S.
You’ll help map fine and fee structures and conduct cost-benefit analyses of sites’ current collection methods. You’ll also work on scholarly publications based on those analyses. Plus, you’ll get a competitive salary, benefits, an allowance for travel and expenses related to research and conferences, office space, and other resources from UAB.
